If this blog is about anything, it's about breaking away from traditional, conventional and trendy approaches to advertising and marketing. In a time when people try to make more and more bad news seem good because "the worst is over" and "we can only go up from here," I try to be constructive with what we've got.
So here's an idea that may help make people and days more productive. They're overworked already, so why not shorten meetings even if you cannot eliminate them?
First, don't invite or allow anyone to attend a meeting, online or off, that doesn't need to be present. After all, the more people who speak at meetings, the longer the meeting will be.
Second, remove the chairs around the table. If people stand, the meeting will be more focused and will be completed in about half the time. Nobody but trade show performers can stand up for very long with becoming uncomfortable.
Perhaps a final benefit will be that a mildly bold step like removing the chairs just might embolden more radical moves in these tough times. Like changing the way you approach new business by hiring a consultant who can help you win more...
